Captain Jack Harkness

I can't believe it took me so long to plug this, but never mind that.

For Captain Jack Harkness shagging his way through [Earth] history: [livejournal.com profile] sodomy_central (featuring [livejournal.com profile] apiphile's devastating "Wild With All Regrets (For S.S.)" and [livejournal.com profile] minervasolo's Latintastic "contactum nullis ante cupidinibus") Lacking historical Minoans (you know me and Minoan Crete) I'm currently contemplating writing about Queen Hatshepsut receiving a tall, pale-skinned, smiling present, and Alkibiades meeting a fellow-minded mercenary. In my copious spare time.

There's also [livejournal.com profile] mission_central for all manner of crossovery joy (I wonder if I can shoehorn an FBI investigation into a Torchwood caper sometime...). I think I'm becoming pretty fond of Captain Jack Harkness's following.

PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAE do so.

*grin* I will, even if I don't currently know when.

Thanks to an old episode of Timewatch I watched last night, I'm contemplating a Nefertiti/Amenhotep IV/Jack threesome. With Jack accidentally converting Amenhotep to monotheistic of the Aten and, whoops! And Nefertiti herself is maybe actually a fellow Time Agent who fell in love and decided to stay.

And, damn, this thing's developing plot.

This sounds awesome like an awesome thing of awesomeness, you know.

*cheers you on*

BTW, did you know that there's a classic cocktail (popular in the 1920s) called Jack Rose?

Officially, the name probably derives from the fact that ingredients include appleJack and it's rose-colored from grenadine.

When Ian ordered one at a bar the other night, I cracked him up by pointing out it's not only a drink, it's canonical het. He asked if it shouldn't be more properly called a "Doctor Jack Rose" and I replied that it originally was, but just got shortened for menus...

I did! I want to try one one day.

And even more so now, so I can accurately write the flavor into the story that I will BE FORCED TO WRITE now that you gave me this irresistable plotbunny. :) Maybe I can find The Fine Art of Mixing Drinks and write about Mr. Embury -- he is a historical personage, isn't he?

The Eastern Standard in Kenmore Sq. makes and serves them.

[livejournal.com profile] xiphias is looking for excuses to go back there with other people so he can sample more of the drink menu. [Do you drink on your lunch break? And, if not, should you start? :D Alternately, maybe some evening after work we (or you and Ian) can go for supper...]

Don't know who Embury is, but at some point I can share some of what I've found about bar books and drink histories. [For a fun read, get ahold of David Wondrich's "Imbibe!"]

Oh, and speaking of bargeekery, Jackson Cannon -- bar manager @ Eastern Standard -- wanted to put the Jack Rose on the menu, but found many variations. So, "armed with a list of 21 different Jack Rose recipes," one evening he got together with two other high-end Boston bartenders, made all 21 versions, and they held a private tasting to determine which was best. And they dubbed themselves "The Jack Rose Society"

I would absolutely adore that. *beams at you* As tempting as it would be I probably shouldn't drink *during* the workday... :D

You know, you always know the niftiest things and have the absolutely best ideas. The Jack Rose Society! If that's not a title I don't know what is.

I don't know the fandom at all, but I just had to say that [livejournal.com profile] sodomy_central is the best name for a community ever.

[identity profile] rubynye.livejournal.com 2008-02-19 07:33 pm (UTC)(link)
*grin* It truly is.

*bounces* Oh Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeesa!!!! *bows at your feet*

I love all the ideas you present here. *grins* When you speak of the FBI I'm assuming you mean X-Files.... right? *puppy dog eyes* Jack/Mulder would be too hot for words.

*grin* The crossover possibilities are endless!

I actually wasn't thinking of Mulder, whom I adore but can't write; I was thinking of Don Eppes and his genius brother Professor Charlie. :D

I was reading a book the other day (mostly about Victorian-era alienists) which had some amusing stuff in it reprinted from early books on 'inversion'. One of them was by some young Italian fellow who had quite a lot of fun with a dear friend called The Captain. All I could think was: well yeah, good to know that Jack was having a good time of it in the late 1880s, thanks for the mental image.

You know, I bet [livejournal.com profile] sodomy_central would love art, too. And wouldn't 1880's clothes be fun to draw? Especially as they come off? *grin*

Help, help, I'm drowning in art bunnies!
