A Mermaid's magical spacesuit!

Mermaids can't come out of the water but the mermaid really wants to be up where the people are. So instead of submitting to the patriarchy, losing her voice, having to walk on painful feet, and lose her essential identity, she finds herself a competent witch who knows what she's doing.

The witch is like, "duh, permanent water bubble and why don't I give you the ability to levitate while we're at it. Go wherever you want."

So the mermaid goes home with the witch.
