Mather's Poem/Recipe on/for Punch

I've been reading Secrets of New England Cooking (ISBN 0-486-41367-5, first published 1947) and enjoying it greatly (all the food history! All the tasty unusual ideas! All the horrible things I'm glad we don't cook anymore!). It includes (in the chapter "Family Brewing", page 275) this poem, sent in 1757 to Sir Henry Frankland and "probably written by Samuel Mather, son of Cotton Mather".

Did his dad know he was making such merry? )
