Some pertinent images

Look what I found: an adorable hobbitlass and Brunhilde aka Broomhilda as a Disney Princess! (I am probably more accepting of the Disney Princess shtick than I should be, since I live with a little girl who loves them, but I see and agree with Ms. Washington's point).

Also, I found http://www.becauseofthemwecan.com . I have been looking for something to post about Black History Month that conveyed, well, what the month means to me, education, inspiration, knowledge of the past and hope for the future. This does so brilliantly. The photographer is Ms. Eunique Jones and here's an article about her project.

Fantasy of color has great stuff! Thanks for pointing me there.

I'm mildly distracted by the question of whether hobbits would have cloth with printed patterns.

You're very welcome!

I too thought that was lace, but I do think hobbits could have patterned cloth. Hand printing with a carved block of wood (or potato) is pretty technologically simple.

Hey, nothing wrong with wanting to be able to dress up in pretty clothes, and the idea that some handsome and debonair individual would be willing to ride to your rescue is very appealing--it's just nothing something one should expect to have happen, or build one's adult life and expectations around, that's all. :-) I definitely understand where Ms. Washington is coming from with that, too.

*nod* It's another variation, rather than one set way. And in the movie, when we first meet the character, she's being punished for trying to run away, so she clearly wasn't passively waiting either.

Gahhh, thank you for the Black History Month link; I've been looking for something just like this! (Also, that hobbitlass is adorbs.)

... said the complete stranger. Hi! So, this is super random, but at the risk of sounding wildly creepy, I recently stumbled into your journal (... I think through a comment you left on some Star Trek fic I was reading?), and it turned out to be chock full of super interesting stuff and Things I Like, so I hope you don't mind that I added you out of the blue! /waves

Oh thank you so much for the links! I have a wide friend base, many with younger people in their families and having new inspiration that is not all about people who look just like me is a blessing.

I really appreciate how much you teach in this journal, thank you for it.

Neil Gaiman was right -- in response to life's tribulations, make good art. I'm really glad these lovely people did so, and the least I could do was to signal boost their work.

AHAHA you flatter me. :) Thank you. :)
