Look what I found: an adorable hobbitlass and Brunhilde aka Broomhilda as a Disney Princess! (I am probably more accepting of the Disney Princess shtick than I should be, since I live with a little girl who loves them, but I see and agree with Ms. Washington's point).
Also, I found http://www.becauseofthemwecan.com . I have been looking for something to post about Black History Month that conveyed, well, what the month means to me, education, inspiration, knowledge of the past and hope for the future. This does so brilliantly. The photographer is Ms. Eunique Jones and here's an article about her project.

I'm mildly distracted by the question of whether hobbits would have cloth with printed patterns.

I too thought that was lace, but I do think hobbits could have patterned cloth. Hand printing with a carved block of wood (or potato) is pretty technologically simple.

... said the complete stranger. Hi! So, this is super random, but at the risk of sounding wildly creepy, I recently stumbled into your journal (... I think through a comment you left on some Star Trek fic I was reading?), and it turned out to be chock full of super interesting stuff and Things I Like, so I hope you don't mind that I added you out of the blue! /waves
