A Few Good Things

There has been a great deal of bad news this week in various spheres of my life and my friends' lives. Here are a few things I came across that pleased me.

[livejournal.com profile] marydell linked me to this story about sportsmanship and high school softball.

I can't remember who linked me to Dreamwidth user Happydork's Picspam Thursdays but that's how I found this article about the wedding of Mr. Thom McCaffrey and Lance Corporal James Wharton of the Household Cavalry, and many other wonderfulnesses besides.

[livejournal.com profile] bikergeek told me about this hilarious legal decision and [livejournal.com profile] solvent90 told me more about this wonderfully snarky judge.

ETA Via [livejournal.com profile] valkyrwench's spot-on open letter to Rep Barton, apologist for and apologizer to British Petroleum, Joe Barton would like to apologize to...

Quinn J and [livejournal.com profile] foreverdirt's picspams are a reliable source of joy in my life. I'm so glad you enjoy them too.

If you're who pointed me there, thank you. They have been filling me with delight. :)

Great stories!

A friend of a friend is not necessarily your friend.

That sounds like a fic prompt to me.

Doesn't it just? Neophyte Captain Jim and diplomacy, Neal and the second time he got arrested, Leverage, Leverage and also Leverage...

Those court decisions are lovely!

Have you seen this one?

[identity profile] browngirl.livejournal.com 2010-06-20 04:40 pm (UTC)(link)
That was hilarious! "Both attorneys have obviously entered into a secret pact — complete with hats, handshakes and cryptic words — to draft their pleadings entirely in crayon on the back sides of gravy-stained paper place mats, in the hope that the Court would be so charmed by their child-like efforts that their utter dearth of legal authorities in their briefing would go unnoticed. " *bahahagiggle*

Oh my, those court decisions have positively made my day. Thank you for passing them along!

You're very welcome. :)

The story of L/Cpl Wharton and his husband has me grinning all over my face.

Me too -- it actually gave me the idea for this post.

Here's to the day when we read such an article about a marriage stateside... and the day when such weddings are no longer even newsworthy. :)

Oh, God, thank you for that first link. It's the best thing I've read all day.

*beams* It made me absolutely so delighted, so I had to pass that on.

(Also, you and [livejournal.com profile] marydell would like each other, I think. Her son is newly two.)

PS Kiss Slashspouse for me for Father's Day!

Those court cases are great! Thank you.

"The corporate veil here was more of a bandit’s mask." Now that's putting it bluntly.

Here's a bit of irony noted by the court in a case I was involved in:

The irony, of course, is that all of Eves's surreptitious, too-
clever-by-half efforts were ultimately immaterial. If Eves had
simply adhered to the property description of the original Sales
Agreement, the scope of the transaction, as described in the
contract's language, would still have included the property in
Townships 7 and 8. See ___ Or App at ___ (slip op at 29).
Nevertheless, Eves's conduct was highly probative of defendant's
belief that it was, in Bryan's phrase, "trying to slip something
by."

*grins at you* If I had known legal writings had any chance whatsoever of including wit and snark maybe I would've considered law school twice.

Thank you! The softball story & the wedding are really lovely, and J Quinn made me howl with laughter.

I got your postcard today also -- thank you so much!

Oh, you're totally welcome for all of it. :)

OMG, Mr. and Mr. McCaffrey and Wharton are adorable. Thank you for these lovely links!

I have another piece of entertaining legality for you, this one in verse form (http://wonderingminstrels.blogspot.com/2005/06/fisher-v-lowe-michigan-court-of-appeals.html)!
