Happy Family Memories

this OHNY (warning: bad language) reminds me of when I was nine and my father spent most of a sit-down family dinner telling me all about Hell in vivid detail. Good times!

And now for actual family happiness: the Joshlet holding up his book for Eva, turning pages and showing her each in turn. Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!

When Margaret was four (or thereabouts), she asked me why "damn" was a swear word, and what was wrong with it.

I explained that swear words were words that made people think about things that they didn't like to think about or be reminded of. I went on to say that to "damn" someone is saying that you don't want them to get to go to Heaven and be with God when they die. When you think about it, that's a pretty mean thing to say, and that's why it makes some people really upset.

That explanation made sense to her, and now she gives me grief every time I swear. :)

That is the best explanation for swear words that I've heard yet.

*laugh* I will have to remember that explanation --- and its aftermath. :D
