That was a fun piece of crack. I think it grew out of discussions with danae_b. I thought, "If a hobbit were to be a vampire from whom would they catch it? A Ranger!" and I'd been making up a Halbarad of tall smiling nobility whom I enjoyed tossing hobbits at. So I mixed that, Pippin's memetic flirtiness, the Scarf, and my headcanons about hobbit life ("playing tweens" as their conception of demi-adult non-monogamous sexuality, pasttimes like camping, hosting Big Folk guests, and so on) into a spicy Halloween brew. ;)
