Here We Go Again

(This may or may not show up on
fandompays.)
LJ is at it again. And by "at it" I mean they have clarified the "content that would be prohibited under our policy on illegal and harmful activity". Specifically, the post I linked to states that "If it qualifies as obscene, and if it involves minors (people under the age of 18), then it's not allowed." Which would be rather more useful if the qualifications for obscenity were themselves clear; as
brown_betty states, "There are no rules that you will be safe if you follow. It doesn't matter what the law is in the country you live in. If it depicts sex, and lj decides that "the average person" would find it obscene, and that it has "no redeeming literary, artistic, political [or] scientific value" (cite,) that's obscene. " (Her post is well worth reading, not just because it quotes from and points to obscenity expert Violet Blue's discussion of these issues here)
Some have theorized that this was announced either in anticipation of Potterdammerung, or timed to be overshadowed by it. Be that as it may.
brown_betty has also written a guide to backing up one's LJ and
liz_marcs has laid out options for moving in a clear and useful comparison. And
solvent90 may be hosting an illegal activities ficathon, featuring this naughtily wonderful thing by
glossing.

Date: 2007-07-20 07:27 am (UTC)I would love to take part in an illegal activities ficathon - even if I had to post it outside LJ and just link to it. Thank goodness I've been backing up all my fic anyway, and posting most of it on the website, too. Not that I write a lot of underage porn. I did write a very random Ginny/Hermione smutfic at one point that would qualify as illegal under these terms.

Date: 2007-07-24 12:18 am (UTC)You know, maybe that's what I should do, find a chunk of webspace and host an Illegal Activities ficathon.
*contemplates list of things I have to do*
Or, maybe not. But it is a thought.

Date: 2007-07-20 11:11 am (UTC)I may have kinda ...drawn fanart of you. It will be up later. No one from work will recognise you, so no Petite Anglaise treatment worries.

Did you know your story "The Lining of the World" was nominated for the MEFAs? You've had a few others nominated that are com peting, but so far you haven't started the form for this one. If you want it to compete, can you fill out the form ASAP and let me know you did that? The deadline for finishing up these forms is tonight.
Thanks, Marta
