Canning makes me happy. It fulfils some kind of hoarding instinct that only otherwise finds outlet in books and shoes. Already I have canned enough crab-apple jelly to make toast for an army, and there's still the rhubarb to go.
Also, it makes me feel like Laura Ingalls Wilder, which apparently is something I enjoy.
