This is wonderful! I didn't know what "passed down" meant at first, but then with the second scene I giggled because... such a great idea. And the hobbits, they're so lovely. Especially this one:

Pippin, who lay there with arms behind his head, listening as if this were the most ordinary discussion a hobbit had ever had.

And Merry calling Vinca a devious lass is hilarious.
