New Star in 2022

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/science/2017/01/06/spectacular-collision-suns-will-create-new-star-night-sky-2022/

[Well, to synopsize: a binary star system's members are spiraling inwards and in 2022 the light from their collision should reach Earth, if predictions are correct, resulting in a bright naked-eye-visible star appearing where there currently isn't such an object. People who know more about astronomy than I do are eagerly invited to edit my synopsis.] With thanks to [livejournal.com profile] lemonsharks for the link.

Okay, I have to live through 2022. No matter what. Despite our ridiculous president and his eager supporters, regardless of if I get beaten up or imprisoned for my political views, no matter if I'm fired and homeless or have a heart attack or an aneurism or are hit by a car or am mugged and knifed in an alley or however much worse my vision gets or whatever else happens to me between now and 2022 I am going to make it through with enough of at least one eye to see a new star.

I am. And I won't kill myself either. Because a true new star will arrive and I'm going to be here to see it. No matter what.

[Dear Universe: this is not a challenge, please. I would like a calm and boring next five years, thank you. I can make my own entertainment.]

Have you read Juniper, Gentian, and Rosemary? It's a fantasy novel with a lot about the love of astronomy.

Let us see it together. :D

That a friend has something that she's sure is worth living for is not alarming, in these perilous times.

That's not alarming. That's heartening.

Also: Wow.

That's an excellent reason to live.

(So long as you then find other reasons after that, I should add.)

Even if I didn't think that was a terrific reason to continue, I firmly believe that any reason works. :)

Also, I didn't know about the new star. Thanks for letting me know.

Love you.

Sky&Telescope is my most trusted source. Here is their article it includes a link to the original technical paper on it as well.

Also, if you haven't seen a total solar eclipse, the one coming up on August 21 should be a priority for you. If you can't make that, there's one in 2024.

I should have posted a link to a proper science maazine, so thank you for adding one. :)

Huh. *looks up Aug 21 eclipse* It's going so far south of me, though! I don't know if I'm that intrepid an explorer.

So may it be ;)

Ah, Northeast public transportation miles are different from midwest everybody-drives-everywhere miles. It seems less intrepid here. It's a road trip with at least two overnight stays.

And in other news, I just got a really cool postcard of a woman dancing on a galaxy. Thank you!

But there seems to be some text on the image that I can't make out...

I'm happy for a new star, but happier to hear your determination (not that I had any reason to suspect otherwise, but, wow, I know some people who need a good reason to go on sometimes, so any time I hear someone has a new one, it's a cause for joy).

[identity profile] browngirl.livejournal.com 2017-03-16 05:51 am (UTC)(link)
*blushes* Thank you.

I struggl a lot with depression, so, sometimes publicly averring that I am determined to live helps me keep going.

That's a wonderful way to look at it.
