Phone Interview and Yesterday's Mistake.

I had a phone interview today for another reception/office management job. This one sounds like it would have more cleaning duties and less being yelled at than my current job. Interview Wednesday at 10 AM: I need to arrange to wake up early enough.

Wolf kindly told me that my boss called while I was asleep, so I called her back. Somehow, my leaving did not get communicated to the Charge Nurse. Urgh. To be more precise, it didn't get communicated from the outgoing charge nurse, M, whom I told I was leaving, to the incoming charge nurse, Y. I made a mistake there -- I should have also told Y I was leaving rather than expecting M to include it in her charge report.

I kind of hope M is not planning to tell my boss I didn't tell her. I don't think she's like that. But.

I am torn between thinking I should be more upset about the idea of potentially losing my job, and being glad I'm not freaking out about it. ANd hey, my boss is kind and diligent enough to find out what's going on rather than just saying, "Oh, Ayesha took off AWOL, fire her/she quit."

... I think I'm going back to sleep.

Just a kind warning that MIT has some plenty dysfunctional departments as well. I know several people who've had to bail out of there, including myself. HR is not particularly helpful when it comes to necessary interventions with, shall we say, challenging personalities, of which there are many at the 'tute.

Make sure to get a good feel for the vibe of the department that you'd be working in for any position you interview for there, just like you would anywhere else. MIT is awesome, but it has its pockets of suckitude, just like any other workplace.

Don't get me wrong - if you find a good job there, take it for sure - it can be a great place to work. Just be aware that it can also suck really badly, too.
