I got this from [livejournal.com profile] baranduin.

It's [not actually]International Book Week. The rules: Grab the closest book to you, turn to page 52, post the 5th sentence as your status. Don't mention the title. Copy the rules as part of your status.

Be patient when caramelizing the onions in step 2; the entire process takes 45 to 60 minutes.

Predetermined brigades of dwarven soldiers turned down these, right behind the passing toy, slaughtering any goblins still in the area.

I am re-reading bad fantasy from my childhood. :) R.A. Salvatore's Dark Elf series.

Good things about going public: not needing to pretend that they were "just friends" whenever the media was around (as if the media had ever believed them).

It actually occurrs to me that this may not be a fair challenge, since the publisher is ISFiC press, and I don't know that you could pick it up in a bookstore. Have you read the Velveteen stories, either when she had them online or after they got published in hardback?

Two volumes - Velveteen vs the West Coast Patriots and Velveteen vs the Multiverse. The second was the one I've got sitting by my desk. :) Good stuff!

Whichever cookbook your sentence is from, put it away; if you have a recipe that takes an hour for a single step, it's too complicated for your busy life. :-)

(This is actually commentary on the sentence you posted, not a sentence from the book closest to me; I put THAT in my own LJ.)

It's actually not that bad -- the cooking is mostly hands-off, so it's not as if one has to stand over the stove for a full hour. It's a recipe for French Onion Soup, and one basically sets the onions up to cook and leaves them alone, stirring every 15-20 minutes.

(That said, I haven't made it in awhile.)

In the London underworld they were known as 'Jacks', which captured their classless anonymity.

It's from a true Victorian crime book called "The Suspicions of Mr. Whicher" - absolutely enthralling stuff.

Dr. Rust held a pair of leather leggings up to his ear with one hand, as if listening for a secret, then scribbled something on a white tag and tied it to a buckle.
