What to Do, what to do
[I don't usually write about politics this often, honestly.] So, on the thought that I should do something about what I care about rather than bicker about it online, I went looking for What People Are Doing about the Voting Rights Act decision. I found this petition and http://www.freetovote.org, but mostly it's going to be up to our individual letters and calls.
I also found this poem, which I really should have just posted instead of my first post today. I should have known Audre Lorde would say what I was thinking better than I could.
"But I who am bound by my mirror
as well as my bed
see causes in colour
as well as sex
and sit here wondering
which me will survive
all these liberations.
" - Audre Lorde, Who Said It Was Simple (excerpt)
I know a lot of people think this is not a matter worthy of concern, but I disagree. We cannot effect change if our ability to vote is blocked.
