Rainbow Chocolate Chip Cake

Not entirely successful, not entirely unsuccessful, and the birthday boy loved it, which is the most important thing.

What I did:

Made a vanilla cake
Divided the batter in half:
Divided one half in 6 parts, added food color as appropriate
Added chocolate chips to the other half
Put half of the chocolate chip half in a greased bundt pan
Layered on the rainbow batter, starting with red and ending with violet
Added the rest of the chocolate chip batter
Baked the cake, etc.

What I'll do next time:
Divide batter into 1/3 and 2/3
Rainbowize 1/3
Put less food coloring in each layer. Gel colors are strong.
Divide remaining batter into 1/3 and 2/3
Add chocolate chips to 2/3

Place batter in bundt cake pan in this order:
Plain batter
1/2 chocolate chip batter
rainbow batter, starting with red and ending with violet
1/2 chocolate chip batter

That looks delicious!

The times I've had rainbow cake, each layer was baked separately and then they were layered together with jam or frosting.

Thanks!

The problem is, I don't have that many cake pans of the same size.
