Writer's Block: Torn between two lovers

Wow, worst title ever. [Error: unknown template qotd]

To be succinct:

Recently, I could not have been nearly as good for one of my SOs without the other's help. Far from being torn between them, I am made all the more complete.

There was a song titled "Torn Between Two Lovers," back in the 70's. That may be where the title of the discussion topic came from.

Torn between two lovers
Feelin' like a fool
Lovin' both of you is breakin' all the rules

And so on. :-)

Nor mine!

But it's actually a pretty good coming-out-as-poly song, or at least, it was ground-breaking for its era:

Not the rules of the point-of-view character in the song, either, but the rules she feared would be driving the partner whom she was addressing.

As [livejournal.com profile] chienne_folle says, it was an unusual hit song in that it was a sympathetic portrayal of someone's experience of trying to navigate poly/multiple relationships, and made a big impression on me when I was 12 (the year it came out).

I believe it was written by Peter of Peter, Paul, and Mary?

At least in the 70s you could admit to loving two... And it seems to be considered possible again. But I'm not sure that popular culture admitted the possibility in the intervening decades.

As distinct from Mary Wells' "Two Lovers (... and I love 'em both the same)", in which the SURPRISE TWIST ENDING is that the two (the nice guy and the heartless guy) are actually two facets of the SAME GUY TEE HEE HEE.

So, yeah, anyway. Not my rules either. :-)

With a corresponding gain in fee, fi and fo, presumably.
