Three Links of Hundreds
So, the big discussion continues.
rydra_wong wrote up a summary of what's been said so far, before today's salvo.
When I read
matociquala's post telling us to stop talking (where among other things, she describes pointing out racism as "a nuclear option and an I Win card" said from a position of privilege, and disavows countenancing Avalon Willow's critique, the one action that had made me respect her no matter what else happened), well, you can probably guess from my parenthetical what my general reaction was.
Of course, many of the intelligent, wise, eloquent people whose voices I've discovered through this discussion had something to say in response. I could link to dozens of wonderful posts that eased me back down from my initial reaction of "fuck my involvement with this genre, then, if the price of admission is shutting up about what matters," that reminded me of the groups and links and authors and resources I've discovered through this discussion. I could name so many people who've written awesome, necessary posts.
Fortunately,
rydra_wong continues documenting and compiling all this. The one post I'm going to link to is
asim's "The R-Word", where he starts his discussion with the statement I specifically mentioned above, quotes extensively from some of the less-popular statements by Dr. King, and writes the post I wanted to write but far better than I would have.
I don't know where as a SF fan I'm going from here -- I wish I could go to Wiscon, I expect it'll be fascinating this year. But I know I'm not going to sit down and shut up and be put in my place.
